Melissa Snively Endorses Steve Cona for School Board, District 1
Hillsborough County School Board District 4 School Board member Melissa Snively today announced the endorsement of Steve Cona for the District 1, Hillsborough County School Board seat.
“It is incredibly important for our school board to have leaders who can be effective and make the hard choices necessary for the job,” said Snively. “Steve will be a champion for families across the district, and I am proud to endorse him and hopeful that we will be able to work together to fix the challenges facing our schools.”
Melissa has served on the Hillsborough County School Board since 2014. She has been in the insurance industry for over 25 years and owns a State Farm Insurance Agency in eastern Hillsborough County. She’s an active member of the community, and serves on the Hillsborough County Council of Governments, the Central Florida School Board Coalition, Florida School Board Association Legislative Committee, and is Chair of the Education and Workforce Council of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce.
Snively joins a growing list of supporters for the Cona campaign, including Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, WWE Superstar Titus O'Neil, business leader and former School Board candidate Gil Machin, Tampa Bay Builders Association, and State Representative James Grant.
“Melissa has been an ally to our schools during her time on the school board and, if elected, I know I will be able to work with her to help our students, teachers and families in the district,” said Cona.
Cona is the president/CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Florida. He was appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees.
Cona has a passion for improving Florida's skilled labor workforce, while cultivating the lives of hardworking, skilled workers. Cona's platform for the school board race is to bring stronger fiscal accountability to the school board, better prepare students for success in college and career, and provide a safe learning environment to students and employees. He is also the executive director of the Build Tampa Bay Foundation and serves on the advisory board for Visit Tampa Bay.
