Gilbert "Gil" Machin Endorses Steve Cona for School Board, District 1

Former District 1 School Board candidate, Gilbert "Gil" Machin, today announced the endorsement of Steve Cona for the District 1, Hillsborough County School Board seat.

"When I was running for the school board, I believed that we needed strong leadership to steer our district in the right direction," said Machin. "Although I did not move on past the District 1 primary, our need for strong leadership in the School Board still continues. I believe Steve Cona is the right candidate for the job and am proud to support his campaign. Our district deserves more than the failing status quo. We need a leader who will help our students and teachers and fight to fix our schools…that person is Steve."

Machin joins a growing list of supporters for the Cona campaign, including Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, WWE Superstar Titus O'Neil, Tampa Bay Builders Association and Representative James Grant.

"I'm honored to have Gil's support," said Cona. "Gil has been a long-time advocate for those most in need in our community, and he also recognizes that we need a drastic change. We can't afford to elect those who will support a system that has left our schools with lead in the water   and our teachers and students without working air conditioning in our classrooms. I will work every day to fight for our teachers, our students, and their families and appreciate his support."

Cona is the president/CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Florida. He was appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees.

Cona has a passion for improving Florida's skilled labor workforce, while cultivating the lives of hardworking, skilled workers. Cona's platform for the school board race is to bring fiscal accountability back to the school board, better prepare students for success in college and career, and provide a safe learning environment to support the "whole child." He is also the executive director of the Build Tampa Bay Foundation and serves on the advisory board for Visit Tampa Bay.
