U.S. Senator Marco Rubio Endorses Steve Cona for School Board, District 1

Steve Cona, candidate for the District 1, Hillsborough County School Board seat, today announced the endorsement of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.

“The work Steve has led through the creation of the Build Tampa Bay Foundation, coupled with his private sector experience, makes him the best candidate for the School Board, District 1 race,” said Rubio. “I look forward to Steve bringing accountability and transparency back to one of the nation’s largest school districts, as well as supporting our teachers and improving student achievement.”

Rubio currently serves as a U.S. Senator for the State of Florida. Rubio previously served as a member of the Florida House of Representative and in 2003, became the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. He was elected to the West Miami City Commission in 1998, starting his political career.

“I’m proud to have Senator Rubio’s endorsement for the School Board, District 1 race,” said Cona. “He’s been a champion of District 1 as a U.S. Senator and knows firsthand the issues impacting this community. As a school board member, I will hold our school district accountable, create new pathways for college and career, and work to make our schools safer.”

Rubio joins a growing list of supporters for the Cona campaign, including Mayor Bob Buckhorn, WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil, Lieutenant Governor Carlos López-Cantera, Tampa Bay Builders Association and Representative James Grant. Cona is the president/CEO of Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida. He was appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to the Hillsborough Community College District Board of Trustees.

Steve has a passion for improving Florida’s skilled labor workforce, while cultivating the lives of hardworking, skilled workers. Cona’s platform for the school board race is to bring fiscal accountability back to the school board, better prepare students for success in college and career, and provide a safe learning environment to support the “whole child.” Cona is also the executive director of the Build Tampa Bay Foundation and serves on the advisory board for Visit Tampa Bay.
